Dieses tragische Ende der Liebenden und der Kitzel des Verbrechens sind natürlich wie geschaffen für Hollywood. Den ersten Film gab es schon 1937, also schon 4 Jahre nach ihrem Tod.

Es folgten Filme, Musik, Musicals…alles womit man Geld verdienen kann. Bei einigen dieser Werke sprachen Kritiker auch von Gewaltverherrlichung, weil sie den romantischen Teil der Geschichte zu sehr in den Vordergrund rückten.

Das Word dewlap bag, gibt es eigentlich nicht. Georgie Fame gab zu, das er sich  „versungen“ hat.  Es gibt trotzdem einige Diskussionen darüber und sogar Angebote für Taschen.

Ich würde es mal als Beutebeutel übersetzen.

Der Textdichter wollte wohl seinen Text „so amerikanisch wie möglich“ „klingen“ lassen. Mögen die Amerikaner entscheiden, ob ihm das gelungen ist.
